Chiropractic: What’s it really all about?

It is estimated that about 27 million Americans visit doctors of chiropractic each year, and millions more receive chiropractic care throughout the rest of the world. Chiropractic is the third largest primary health care field (after medicine and dentistry) and D.C.s are licensed in all 50 states as well as many foreign countries. It is a highly scientific approach to health care which has been proven effective in numerous research studies. [Source]

Yet, many people still don’t really understand what chiropractors do.

Chiropractors adjust the vertebrae of the spinal column to allow the body to heal itself. By manipulating the spine chiropractors can open up neurological pathways that are essential for maintaining overall health.

Regular chiropractic care maintains the integrity of the spine and nervous system to help prevent health problems. Chiropractic can also be a successful alternative to risky, invasive procedures. Chiropractic care requires more frequent treatments initially. As your health improves, the treatments should decrease. When your optimum goals of health are met, treatment and re-evaluation should be continued on a periodic schedule in order to maintain your good health.

Dr. Carpenter’s Chiropractic Philosophy

The body, if given the right foods and environment, has the capability (in most cases) of healing itself. My job as a Doctor of Chiropractic is to analyze the body, find out what its needs are and to treat accordingly by treating the person as a whole and not just the symptoms. I believe that a person must have spiritual, emotional and physical health in order to function as a fully alive human being. These three parts work together and must not be separated. One of my favorite quotes from Thomas Edison is: “The doctor of the future will give no medicine, but will interest his patients in the care of the human frame, in diet, and in the cause and prevention of disease.” This is the way I like to doctor.
